2009 Virginian - Game 2
One Goal Makes a Difference

It's an old John Denver song that says some days are diamonds and some days are stone. For the Avalanche, the 2009 Virginian soccer tournament was more of the latter than the former.

VYS Freedom, at 47m
Even when our girls played in their very first travel tournament they didn't get off as slowly as they did today. But that says something right there about them. Almost thirty-five games later they finally had a really tough day. A soccer player all my life, I've been there before, too. Every now and then you just have a game or two when you know what you should do, but you just can't find a way to do it.

Of this I'm sure, though, our girls will bounce back. Because that's who they are.

VYS Freedom 1 - Avalanche 0
One Goal Makes a Difference
The Freedom had lost their first match, too, and were hungry for a victory just like the Avalanche. Only the freedom seemed slightly more hungry. On a hot afternoon, the Avas struggled to find one open door, but the opposing defense would not yield. Finally, a beautiful long shot from just outside the eighteen creased the Avalanche goal line for the Freedom win. A very tough loss ends a very tough day. Standouts in this match were: Anna, Goose, Shelby, and JPeg.

CYA Rumble 3 - Avalanche 2
A Great Comeback Falls Short
Against the Rumble the Avalanche has always competed well, and this game, in the end, was no exception. It was the beginning that was tough. In an unprecedented turn of events, the girls in light blue gave up three goals in the first eightteen minutes of the match. The Avs battled back scoring one goal before half time and one more mid-way through the second half, but they couldn't quite find the third one despite their best efforts. Standouts in this match were: Tyla, Holly, Sammy, and Nicole.

Think snow!
